What does latency and packet loss mean?

Latency is the time taken for one packet to complete a trip from one location to another. Most ADSL users refer to this as Ping time or Round Trip Time.

Packet loss is the amount of packets lost when moving from one destination to another. This can be identified by performing a ping test from your command prompt. The packet loss results are presented in a % value which will help you estimate the packet loss of your connection.
